SIX STEPS OF SEPARATION

STEP 1. DOUBTING GOD’S GOODNESS, WISDOM, AND PERFECTION OF HIS INTENTIONS TOWARD US.

STEP 2. BELIEVING THAT WE NEED MORE THAN GOD AND WHAT HE HAS PROVIDED TO SATISFY, SUSTAIN, AND SECURE OUR LIVES.

STEP 3. PLACING MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS ABOVE LOYALTY TO GOD

There are times in our lives when we have to make strategic choices about relationships. All of us face this same tension throughout our lives. Meaningful, trusted relationships bring affirmation, a sense of worth, companionship, the pleasure of long walks together and deep conversations that bond our spirits as one. We find in relationships what we’ve been looking for. Relationships provide measures of satisfaction, sustenance, and security for us emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, and physically in fact, in every way. And the person with whom we are relating packages all of that for us. It is traumatic to think of giving up such a treasured benefit so that we can continue our personal walk with God.

Speaking of Adam in the garden, Jim Elliot, a missionary to the jungles of Ecuador wrote: “He waited till God saw his need, Then God made Adam sleep, prepared for his mate, and brought her to him. We need more of this ‘being asleep’ in the will of God. Then we can receive what he brings us in his own time if at all.
